Cloth. Condición: Very Good Indeed. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. Not Stated Ilustrador. First edition. An illustrated first edition 1935 survey of British art styles in the manufacturing industry, particularly in the realm of furniture, metalwork, and pottery. First edition.Illustrations include a frontispiece and 100 plates accompanying the text survey. These plates show direct visual examples of the favoured art and design styles of the day. Details of a 1935 survey carried out by Henry G. Dowling on British industrial art and design styles. This research carried out for this text contributed to the Royal Academy Exhibition of British Art in Industry, which also debuted in 1935. This text examines the main features of British art and design craftsmanship, particularly within interior decoration, furniture, metalwork, and pottery.Starting in the 1920s, there was a high level of interest in raising the standards of design in British manufacturing styles, in order to improve overall public taste. Dowling's aim within this work was to analyse the 'importance of design to industry' so that a closer relationship between art and industry in modern Britain could be formed.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Cloth is very bright, with gilt illustration on front board and spine. A couple of marks to spine and boards. Very light wear to extremities. Ink stamp from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design Library on pastedowns. Aged tape marks to paste downs. Small damp stain to the margins of the first few pages. Illustrated plates at rear remain bright and clean. Institutional stamp to the reverse of the title page. Very Good Indeed. book.
