Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. Unpaged. First English language edition. Monograph of the Brazilian artist Lan; text in English. Black boards; black pencil illustrations throughout. Originally published in Portuguese in 1978. Translated from the Portuguese by Peter T. Seidl. Text by Haroldo Costa. Binding tight; boards clean; no dust jacket. Oversize and heavy book may require a small additional shipping charge. Quoting from the text (by Lan): This book was born in Paris, in 1966. I recall a recorded letter that Vinicius de Moraes sent to Tom [Jobim], and which I listened to. . . Vinicius said that the homesickness for Brazil, when one lives abroad, is felt more in the form of traditional samba, than the 'bossa nova' style. Nothing could be truer. That old song 'Aquarela do Brasil' still brings on goose flesh, when you're far from home. Even more so, listening to Portela's drum section, on a record I found by chance in Samuel Wainer's apartment at Rue Davioud!?it was there that the first drawing flowed out of my pencil, to the beat of the lead bass drum. The drawing of the Bahianas that illustrates this statement, which I sold to my unforgettable friend. . . to round out the cost of my return ticket to Rio de Janeiro. . . . Size: 31 x 31 cm. 0.0.
