Fine condition, stiff boards covered with illustrated cloth,with Japanese binding, and in a slipcase (which is near fine, just a little rubbing). Fifty four images, arranged one to a page, with poem on the same page. Pages are double fold.

Tiny oblong book ( 4" by almost 6") covered in yellow cloth printed with Japanese figures, and bound with purple thread and purple silk. Red paper title label, in near fine condition. Printed cardboard slipcase is in very good condition with a bit of edgewear and one tiny chip at opening edge. Tiny reproductions of some of Hiroshige's woodblock prints, complemented by a few lines of poetry by well known Japanese poets on each page. Each page is actually a folded sheet, printed on one side, accordian fold format, though bound on one side by prple thread and silk. 53 numbered mini-prints and verses, followed by one more. One of the most popular woodblock artists of all time, Ichiryusai Hiroshige, journeyed down the road from Tokyo to Kyota in 1832, along the way Hiroshige sketched 54 scenes, which appear in this wonderful little volume. Each print is accompanied by Japanese poetry forms: tanka, haiku, and senryu . . . the prints and the poems show wonderful details of everyday life and scenes. The prints are tipped-in. Cardboard covers are covered with attractively illustratred fabric and are stitched with purple thread. Volume is protected by attractive pictorial slipcase, which is in very good cond. Second cy, later printing, is also available & is very cood, near new cond. And protected in slipcase. Cy 2. prints are an intricate printed part of the volume and are not tipped in. Size: 6" x 4".
