Autobiography & memoir of Omar Cabezas Lacayo (1950 -), commander in the guerrilla war against Somoza & a prominent Sandinista party member. First published in Spanish under the title "La Montaña es Algo Mas Que Una Inmensa Estepa Verde". 233 pgs. Record of fighting the US supported Somoza dynastic dictatorship. This testimony was written when Cabezas, member of the Sandinista gov't, was Chief of Political Direction of the Ministry of the Interior and commandante in the Nicaraguan armed forces. He writes: "The Marines could not defeat Sandino in Nicaragua because they could not defeat the hills, the insects, the shadows, the lonliness, the trees, or the fires of Nicaragua". Cabezas knew these hills well. Written in the vernacular, the language is vivid, irreverent and powerful, Cabezas was stripped of above mentioned posts in 1987 following Sandinista party discord, but was elected to the Nat'l Assembly in the 1990.
