"Il contrasto (schema antichissimo da Iacopone a Bonvesin) si sviluppa vivacemente in direzione teatrale, opponendo il materialismo dell'uomo esteriore all'ascesi platonica dell'altro; alla fine l'uomo esteriore si converte, in una notevole drammatizzazione dell'intervento della grazia di Dio, che salva l'uomo senza conculcare il libero arbitrio: tema da mettere senz'altro in rapporto con il capitolo contro Lutero.
