Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. 304 pages Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original jacket. Signed by the author. First edition. This work combines the mystery narrative talents of the author with his keen knowledge of his native New Mexico. The story begins in 1926 in West Africa, where Andrew Borlin, an eccentric but brilliant scientist, is involved in genetic studies. The death of a tribal leader's son makes Borlin the victim of black magic vengeance--and a murderer, for he is forced to kill the creator of a waxen image made in his likeness. Borlin flees the African continent, the wax doll safely at his side, but with a clinging fear its spell cannot be reversed. The narrative then moves to the present. Involved in his work as a hardworking advertising executive in San Francisco, Ross Blair suddenly receives a phone call for his ex-wife, Carol Lockwood (Borlin's daughter), who had disappeared from his life 20 years before, taking their infant daughter with her. Their daughter has left home and is involved with drugs. Ross travels to New Mexico, arriving in a small village and listens to his ex-wife unfold her confusing tale. Condition: Signed on half title. Corners bumped. Jacket price clipped and gently rubbed else very good in like jacket. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. 304p., long author's inscription, signed, very good first edition in black cloth boards and slightly edgeworn unclipped dj. The New Mexican writer contends that his book is the "first mystery-suspense novel by a Chicano writer" (dj); it is also his first book.
