A pragmatic pacifist, Devere Allen (1891-1955) championed nonviolence while an active member of the Socialist Party of America. He ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate and for Governor in Connecticut, and also served as editior for various publications, including The World Tomorrow and The Nation. Inscribed by Allen on the front flyleaf, with a circa 1940 prospectus for Devere Allen's lecture tour laid in. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Some minor edgewear to the boards.
