Binding worn; minor damage to outer edge of upper; minor remnants of label to center of upper board; head of spine to lower split. Slightly browned and foxed; some gatherings split; occasional tears to upper margin; publisher's handstamps to lower margin of title. Alice de Nevers was first performed in Paris at the Folies-Dramatiques on 22 April 1875. "For his theatrical career [Ronger] took the name Hervé, gradually gaining recognition through his Don Quichotte et Sancho Pança (1848) and engagements at the Théâtre de l'Odéon and Théâtre du Palais-Royal, where he appeared as author, composer, conductor, actor, tenor buffo singer and producer, as required." An einen Herrn wegen eines Probentermins im Drury Lane Theater. - Hervé war zunächst Organist und Bühnensänger, ehe er 1851 Kapellmeister des Théâtre du Palais-Royal wurde. Er wurde der Begründer einer neuen französischen Operettenära. Durch seine "Folies concertantes", ein 1854 übernommenes Bühnentheater, für das er mehrere Stücke schrieb, wurde er der Vorläufer der "Bouffes-Parisiennes" Jacques Offenbachs und der in ihrem Gefolge aufblühenden Parodien-Musik.
