6037 Lawton Hall Estate Congleton Cheshire 1870s COLOR PRINT " FO Morris antique prints colored engravings circa 1870s ANTIQUE COLOR PRINT Title: LAWTON HALL Approximate Image Size: 5 X 7 1/2 inches Approximate Overall Size: 8 X 10 1/2 inches Brilliant color print. Printed and engraved by by B. Fawcett, Driffield. This beautiful attractive colour plate originates from and is one of a Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of The Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britian and Ireland as presented by F. O. Morris. A greater proportion of the drawings which originated from the publication were by Alexander F. Lydon, and printed from coloured wood-blocks using the Baxter process by Benjamin Fawcett. Published by William Mackenzie, Ludgate Hill, Edinburgh and Dublin CONDITION: Very Good Condition. The colors are brilliant, rich and bright. Reverse side is blank and printed on heavier quality paper. From the old descriptive: LAWTON HALL, NEAR CONGLETON, CHESHIRE. - LAWTON. This mansion is a handsome structure of considerable extent. The grounds are tastefully laid out, extending to the church at the west front of the house, and contain an artificial sheet of water. At the time of Edward the Confessor, Lawton, then called Lautune, was divided into two unequal portions, both of which were held by Godric, and both became the property of Hugo de Mara, and are mentioned in the Domesday Survey. - In 1552, William Lawton was found to have held the Manor of Lawton, with court-leet and free-warren, and the advowson of the church of Church Lawton, from the King, in capite, by military service.
