Prominent figure in early 18th-century England, serving in key governmental roles such as Secretary at War and Secretary of State. His political career reached its pinnacle during the reign of Queen Anne, where he played a significant role in the Tory faction and the "Country Party." However, Bolingbroke's fortunes took a turn when he fell out of favor with the new Hanoverian monarchy, leading to his exile. While in France, he turned to political and philosophical writing, producing influential works like "The Idea of a Patriot King" and "Reflections upon Exile." Despite his exile, Bolingbroke's ideas continued to resonate, impacting later political thinkers such as David Hume and Edmund Burke. Approximate Image Size: 5 ins x 4 ins.
