FO Morris antique prints colored engravings circa 1870s ANTIQUE COLOR PRINT Title: CAPERNWRAY Approximate Image Size: 5 X 7 1/2 inches Approximate Overall Size: 8 X 10 1/2 inches Brilliant color print. Printed and engraved by by B. Fawcett, Driffield. This beautiful attractive colour plate originates from and is one of a Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of The Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britian and Ireland as presented by F. O. Morris. A greater proportion of the drawings which originated from the publication were by Alexander F. Lydon, and printed from coloured wood-blocks using the Baxter process by Benjamin Fawcett. Published by William Mackenzie, Ludgate Hill, Edinburgh and Dublin CONDITION: Very Good Condition. The colors are brilliant, rich and bright. Reverse side is blank and printed on heavier quality paper. Excerpt from the old descriptive: CAPERNWRAY NEAR LANCASTER, LANCASHIRE. - MARTON. This mansion, which stands about ten miles north-east of Lancaster, contains a good collection of pictures. The architecture is in the early Tudor style. The family of Marton was originally seated at Marton Hall, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Shortly subsequent to the Conquest, Paganus de Marton was Lord of East and West Marton, which lordships, with others in Craven, were held by his descendants for several centuries. Afterwards the Martons moved to the Forest of Bowland, and from thence to the estates they now hold in the above-named county. - Oliver Marton, born in 1668, first held the manor and estate of Capernwray.
