The Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on June 17, 1775, was one of the early and most significant engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Taking place on Breed's Hill, near Bunker Hill, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, it showcased the determination and resilience of the colonial forces against the powerful British Army. Led by Colonel William Prescott, the American patriots fortified their positions and repelled two frontal assaults by the British. Despite eventually being forced to retreat due to ammunition shortages, the battle demonstrated the colonists' ability to stand up to British regulars and boosted morale in the fledgling Continental Army. The high casualties suffered by the British, compared to the relatively lower losses on the American side, underscored the heavy toll of the conflict and served as a rallying cry for the patriot cause. 1846 Steel Engraving - Antique Print.
