The Westminster Arcade, also known as the Providence Arcade or Arcade Providence, stands as a historic landmark in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Constructed in 1828, it holds the distinction of being the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States and showcases exemplary commercial Greek Revival architecture. Designed by Russell Warren and Tallman & Bucklin, the Arcade's arcaded lane of shops with skylights became a model for similar structures in Europe. Over the years, it has played a significant role in the city's retail landscape and even hosted notable visitors like President John Tyler during his tour of New England in 1843. Today, the Arcade stands as a testament to Providence's rich architectural and commercial history, continuing to serve as a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.
