Four volumes; 5 3/4 inches x 8 3/4; 179+pp.; 252+pp.; 256 pp.; 259 pp., each volume has a frontispiece portrait, these frontispieces reproduced portraits of Synge by James Paterson (photograph), J. B. Yeats (drawing), a Chancellor photograph, James Paterson (drawing). Brown cloth, with titling gilt on the spines, bevelled edges, top-edges gilt. The upper cover corners of volume one are bumped; the spine ends and the bindings show some fading, dusting and wear, some buckling of the cloth or to the endpapers in a few places; some age-related tanning to the endpapers, prelims., a few, occasional, scattered tan spots to page margins, page corner in volume four, p. 97, shows the laid paper cut off short. Each volume bears two bookplates: on the front paste-downs: George Fottrell (Motto: Vita Sine Libris Somnus), and on the facing, free endpapers: the double silhoutte bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector and author, Munson Havens (1873-1942) (and Hetty Ganson Havens).
