1956 signed first edition, The Book Craft, Inc. (Dallas, Texas), 5 5/8 x 8 inches tall blue hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket, silver lettering to front cover and spine, [5], 58, [2] pp. Signed by author on blank front free-endpaper, with a gift inscription above that. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - in a slightly rubbed dust jacket which has a slightly darkened spine but is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. ~M~ [1.0P] A book of poetry centered on the theme of American Democracy, a composite of poetic expressions about our wars and the historical events in which our Nation has been involved, arranged chronologically. Poet and author Caroline Langman Converse (1878-1976) was the daughter of German immigrants to Hall County, Nebraska, and moved to Los Angeles later in life. She has more than a dozen other books to her credit, including Sea Babies (1933), I Remember Papa (1949), Let's Play Circus (1953), German Immigrant (1953), Lantern in the Prairie (1954), Magic Moonbeam (1959), Island in the Prairie (1963), Buy Hyacinths (1966) and more.
