32 inserted patterns of marbled paper hand made by Katherine Davis of Payhembury Marbled Papers, individually 4 X 5 inches and mounted. Text reproduced photographically from the second (enlarged) edition of 1881. Green buckram with flowered endpapers, titled in gilt. A fine copy in a matching drop-back box with a gilt leather spine label. Prospectus and a piece of marbled cloth by Christopher Rowlatt loosely inserted This was the first book in England to describe in detail the methods of producing marbled patterns on paper and book edges.
