5 1/2 inches x 7 in., title-page; tables, indexes of first lines, authors/translators, English & Dakota titles, Dakota Alphabet. xviii, 238 pp., printed music; 176 Hymns, 33 Chants in Dakota, with titles in English. Dark brown, flexible cloth covers with gilt titling and designs, and embossed Cross design on the front cover. Fading to gilt stamping, light, age-related tanning to paper, some lower margins (pp. 10-13) show trimming of page numbers, words. Inscribed by Episcopal Archdeacon, Vine Deloria (Senior), father of American Indian historian & activist, Vine Deloria, Jr., on the front endpaper, to Cleveland, Ohio based rare book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951): "Presented to Mr. William G. Mather on the occasion of the dedication of Saint Katherine's Chapel Martin, South Dakota. October 13, 1940.
