A set of 2 (approx.) 20 x 17 1/2" folded copperplate engravings with engraved French text. #1: "Vue de Tunis." at top right under title: Tom. VI. No 10 pag. 40. Fine engraved central text titles: "Des Algeriens; Leur puissance sur Mer &c., De Tunis, Gigery &c." 6 fine vues at top & bottom (from left) titled: Alger, Maniere dont les Algeriens enterrent leurs Morts, Porte d' Alger, & la maniere dont on y execute les Criminels, (bottom): Gigery, Tripoli, Tunis. & 6 smaller side engravings bordering text titled: (from top left) Autre porte d'Alger, Chameau Animal commun en Barbarie, Ialoses, Funerailles des Ialoses, Habitans du Cap Verde, Funerailles des quojas." #2: "Singularitez." at top right: Tom. VI. No. 11. Pag. 41. A fine engraved ( 6 1/2 x 4 1/2") map of La Barbarie (Barbary Coast of North Africa) showing the Mediterranean. coast of Southern Europe, Syria, Turkey (coast)& Atlantic with Canary Islands. (Measured in Lieues d'Allemagne); no signatures but possibly from either a Vaugondy, D'Isle, Bellin, Tirion or other French/Dutch, etc. atlas. Central engraved text titled: : "Du Royaume de Fez et de ses usages & Des Mariages et autres usages des peuples de Barbarie." 6 fine engraved vignettes bordering text titled (from top left): Armoise blanche qui croit en Barbarie, Habits des Feziens, Algeriens, Supplice dont on punit les Criminels en Barbarie, Habits de ceux de Sale, Habits de ceux de Maroc." Both printed on a thick paper with extra paper tab on back for binding into an atlas-type volume. #1 shows a few ink spots, etc. in margins, some ink (?) smudges near top of Gigery text; #2 has 2" split up fold of lower margin. Overall, in near fine condition for age & type of (unbound) material. Probably "text" pages disbound from a cannibalized atlas or similar plate book. Excellent for framing. Vues of port cities, costumes, camels, grim executions, etc. Type of drawing on 1 & 2 vary a slight bit in style. Sold as a set of 2 items only. Sold as pictorial/decorative pieces only.
