Full calf leather binding, with gilt decorated spines, gilt titles to twin black labels, top page edges darkened, others yellowed, marbled paste downs and end papers, bookplate. Worn with loss to the top and base of the spines. The atlas includes 39 large copper engravings, maps, plans and views, including 15 maps by Barbié du Bocage and engraved by Tardieu l'Estrapade, 15 plans of battle sites, 8 views and elevations engraved by Pillement after Bourgeois , and a plate of medals by Saint-Aubin. The geographer, cartographer, Jean-Denis Barbié, was also known as Barbié du Bocage (1760-1825). Abbé Barthélemy (1716-1795), a great scholar, highly educated in the field of oriental archeology and numismatics, a close friend of the Duc de Choiseul, directed and enriched the Cabinet des Médailles for many years. Condition Report Externally Spine fair to good condition gilt titles to twin black labels, gilt bands, gilt decorated compartments, rubbed and worn with some loss to the gilt and to the leather, particularly to the top and base of the spine. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition bumped and worn with some loss. Boards good condition calf, marked, worn and scratched, gilt decorated.
