Hardcover. Embossed boards. Marbled endpapers. Many B&W illustrations. Surface rubbing. Just a bit of light wear at the corner tips. Some wear at the spine tail, and with a short tear at the spine tail rear corner. Small surface tear at the lower spine. A few tiny holes along the outer hinge (likely insect damage). The spine gilt is a bit dull, but fully readable. Pages edges age-darkened, and with some freckling. The endpapers and first and last few pages are foxed. There is some foxing throughout (mostly in the fore-edge margins). Most of the illustrations have either no foxing, or only in the margins, but there are a few exceptions. The illustrated title page states "and a Map of the World", but there is no indication of a map present; I suspect this edition was printed without a map.
