Descripción

22 x 38cm. Uncoloured engraving from the official account of Captain Cooks third voyage which explored the NW Coast of America in search of a North-West passage. From a drawing by John Webber, artist on the voyage. Engraved by S Smith. Depicts Indians crowding around Cooks crew on the shoreline with their log cabins in the background. Cook's Third voyage was unprecedented in the amount of money spent on publication with no expense spared on production of the plates. As Sir Joseph Banks said, the expenditure was 'to contribute much to the ornament of the work, as our plates are far better engraved than preceding ones.the publick have a right to that indulgence'. A very fine copy with large margins. Unfolded. N° de ref. de la librería 104345
