Three volumes. Royal octavo. Pp. 592; 478; 592. Profusely illustrated throughout. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's pictorial boards. In fine condition. Excellent set. ~ First edition. A Collector's Set, each volume numbered and signed by the Author. Volume 1: Copy number 194 of 500 collector's copies; Volume 2: Copy number 159 of 500 collector's copies; Volume 3: Copy number 235 of 500 collector's copies. This particular set comes from the bequest of renowned uniform historian and researcher Dr. Pieter Roelse and includes, loosely inserted, a number of rare newspaper and magazine photographs related to the book's subject. The clippings are often additionally captioned in neat hand, and source and date are often given. Rare period material is often included. Many of these clippings correspond directly to illustrations in the book and enhance image and word, providing extra, useful reference. It should be noted that this material, the result of a lifelong research, study, and collection is provided herewith strictly as-is, gratuitous, and subject to what is physically present in the book.
