Leaf 145/146 with diagonal tear (carefully mended), private rubberstamp on title; a very good copy. A French translation (first edition, Berlin, 1858) with annotations by Schlagdenhauffen, from the fourth German edition, of Hoppe-Seyler's (1825-95) practical treatise on the chemical analysis of biological substances. Miescher's discovery of DNA was first published in Hoppe-Seyler's journal, 'Med. - chem. Untersuchungen', in 1871. This discovery was included in the 1875 fourth edition of this book and appears on pages 309 to 311 of this first French translation.
