4to., (11 X 8 4/8 inches). 4 sectional title-pages (lacking general title-page). 51 (of 110) engraved plates by Drouet dated 1809, including 22 double-page, and 29 folding, letterpress tables. Modern red morocco backed, marbled paper boards. Provenance: early inscription to first sectional title-page. "Architecture is, after agriculture, the first and most useful Arts. In the early ages of the world men must have felt the need to provide housing that might set them free from the influence of the seasons and the voracious beasts. Soon these same men united in society, resented the new requirements; and to satisfy the industry created the Arts" (Preface). Toussaint's treaty contains chapters on Geometry, Vignole's theories of Architecture, Architecture, and Construction.
