Large format, bound in red leather, all edges gilt, marbled end-papers, privately published and translated by Ashbel P. Fitch, Fitch was an American lawyer, financier and politician, he was a four-term Congressman and one-term Comptroller of New York City, it is estimated that approximately 200 copies of this edition were published, this copy bears the written name of Ashbel's son (most probably) Morton C. Fitch on a bookplate affixed to the inside of the front cover, this unique copy contains a large number of letters to Ashbel from other prominent people representing businesses and professions in New York City bound-in, (a small number of other letters are laid-in) The letters were sent as a thank you to Ashbel for sending them copies of this book, they represent several law firms, breweries, banks and newspapers along with bookseller Gustav E. Stechert and others, the leather covers are quite worn but the contents are in excellent condition. N° de ref. del artículo 053577
