First Edition. xxxi, 817 pp; 106 illus.; 66 text tables; 13 appendix tables; 6 statistical forms. Original cloth, large 8vo. Corners of covers bumped (front more than rear). Spine and joints rubbed. Faint white ink number on spine. Else Very Good. Social Science Studies Directed by the Social Science Research Committee of the University of Chicago, XXXVI. A typed slip affixed to the front flyleaf reads: 'On loan from H.S. Houthakker December 1951', with the ink stamp of the Department of Applied Economics, Cambridge. 'Student of Henry L. Moore, Henry Schultz was a leading Walrasian in the United States, a pioneer in the introduction of quantitative methods into economics and one of the prominent members of the early Chicago School before his sudden death. Indeed, it was tragic disappearance that induced the University of Chicago to invite the Cowles Commission as a 'substitute' for Schultz. Following Moore's lead, Schultz spent much of his short-lived career attempting to statistically estimate demand and supply functions for various products in all the multi-market complexity of Walras's general equilbrium system. His efforts are best captured in his two most famous studies (1928, 1938 [offered here]). His work on the application statistical methods to economic subjects laid much of the groundwork for later econometrics' (History of Economic Thought Web site). Houthakker = Hendrick S. Houthakker (1924-), Harvard economics professor since 1960 and author of numerous monographs. N° de ref. de la librería 16225
