Sinopsis: Guides new Windows 95 users through installation, configuration, and new operating features, covering such areas as undocumented bugs, Microsoft's PlusPak!, and Shortcuts. Original. (All Users)
Review: Teach Yourself Windows 95 competently explains how to use Windows 95 and distinguishes itself by providing above-average information about Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and the Microsoft Network. The strong point of Windows 95 is standardization. For the most part, all interface components (buttons, drop-down list boxes, etc.) look the same in all applications. Teach Yourself Windows 95 is the only book here that takes the time to explain how all of the standard Windows 95 controls work. It may sound like a minor thing, but if you don't know how to use a scroll bar, this coverage may help you out a lot. There's also an introduction to Registry editing, although it's only a set of instructions for opening, viewing, and printing the Registry and there's no guide to what the various keys do. Additionally, there's a large, helpful glossary and an appendix that details the contents of the Microsoft Plus! add-on pack of goodies.
