Título: THE TSCHUKTSCHI, AND THEIR HABITATIONS
Año de publicación: 1784
Uncoloured engraving from the Atlas of the official account of Captain Cooks Third Voyage which explored the NW Coast of America in search of a North-West passage. From the drawing by John Webber, artist on Cooks third voyage. Depicts a group of Chukchi armed with spears & bows outside their summer tents. Their winter underground homes are shown in the background. Cook visited the Chukotski Peninsula, Siberia in August 1778. Cook's Third voyage was unprecedented in the amount of money spent on publication with no expense spared on production of the plates. As Sir Joseph Banks said, the expenditure was 'to contribute much to the ornament of the work, as our plates are far better engraved than preceding ones.the publick have a right to that indulgence'. 23 x 38cm. A very fine copy with large margins. N° de ref. de la librería 143684
