Descripción:

Size of this authentic medieval vellum leaf: 163mm x 98mm. Text area: 100mm x 74mm. 31 lines of script in two columns. Brown (sepia?) ink, with rubrication and initials in alternating blue and red, contrasting penwork in blue and yellow(?), the latter faded. Penwork and initials on recto only. Script is a pleasing and formal round Southern Textualis in two sizes, with some unusual features. Typical Southern features include the uncrossed 7-shaped Tironian abbreviation for 'et'; occasional 3-shaped final 'm'; inverted 'c'-shaped abbreviation for '-bus'; round 'r' after e, i, a. Specific features unusual in Italy, but typical of southern France seen on this leaf include 'a' with upper bow closed with a bold line; hairline from cross-stroke of final 't'; and 9-shaped abbreviation for 'con-' that stands on the base line (all Derolez, Palaeography of Gothic Manuscript Books, p. 117). The hair and flesh sides of this leaf are easily distinguished by both sight and touch, the suede-like flesh side slightly altering the visual effect of the script. In all, a clear example of this script, with a couple interesting paleographic and material features. Some browning at edges from a former (middle 20th-century masking tape) mount. It will always be my practice never to break up old books or fragments: when I sell a leaf or fragment, the item offered for sale will always be the whole of the item that I currently own.
