NSTC, COPAC, World Cat. provide only BL and Bodleian for Four Sermons 1820 and no reference found for A Sermon or Sermons 1815 which contains the Sermon Preached before Judge Hardinge. George Hardinge was the Judge of Mary Morgan hanged in 1805 for the murder of her new born baby. Mary lies buried in the Churchyard at Presteigne. Hardinge was a cousin of her employer, Walter Wilkins, at Glasbury near Hay-on-Wye; Walter Wilkins junior was Chairman of the Jury. It has been claimed that Walter Wilkins junior was the father of the child although this is no longer widely believed. He did not however appear to use his influence to help her during the Trial although she would have had no defence at all without his financial contribution. Ex Libris label to Sermons (1815) of J.C.P.de Winton. The Wilkins family used the alias of de Winton (assumed circa 1839) and the County Library at Llandrindod Wells has a number of documents concerning the case including the link between Hardinge and Wilkins. Sermons, (1815) signed in ink to front pastedown endpaper of John Parry de Winton ……. Brecon/21st July 1924,. Walter Wilkins junior is listed in the Subscriptions List for the Benevolent Schools and John Parry Wilkins was appointed Treasurer circa. 1809. In 1814 both were still in the Subscriptions List. The Sermon delivered by the Revd. T. Price is full of zeal and eerily reminiscent of Hardinge s own writing. By the Fear of the Lord men depart from evil . Proberbs XVI. 6. being the theme on this particular occasion. Signed in ink in a neat flowery hand, to front free endpaper of Four Sermons (1820) Thos. Powell/Brecon/Jan ry 31st 1820 .
