This illustration depicts the history of the Spanish-American War. It was made by George F. Cram in 1898. There are nine drawings showing Camp Black, Hempstead, NY, the sons of officers of the Third Infantry who enlisted as privates, lunch-hour, officers of the "Charleston" (showing the net of rope and leather overhead to protect the men from flying splinters), inspection of equipment, the Tenth US Cavalry passing down Rossville Gap, a view of Santiago from the market, First Infantry leaving Presidio Camp, San Francisco, and the "Charleston" preparing for her trip to the Philippines.
