Decorative red cloth. Thick octavo. 381pp. Illustrated. First edition of this important study on the origins, uses and history of rings. There are sections on the origins of ring-wearing; materials used to make rings; signet rings; interesting rings of history; Native American rings; betrothal (engagement) rings; wedding (nuptial) rings; love tokens; religious use of rings; magic and talismanic rings; rings of healing; and much more. The 290 illustrations include color plates, photographs, facsimiles, and drawings of various historic rings. A very good copy with some light soiling and wear to the cloth. The spine is a bit faded and has some wear to the tips. The text is very good with some light soiling and wear. A few pages have been roughly opened and 5 or 6 pages have tears in the margin which have been neatly repaired with clear tape. Overall the text and plates are clean and bright. Postage extra.
