FIRST EDITION. Small 4 to. Contemp. boards. (2), 26 pp. Woodcut figs. in the text. A very good copy. The inaugural dissertation of the anatomist, Eduard Weber (1806-71), the brother of physicist Wilhelm Weber (1804-91) with whom he collaborated. Their 'Mechanik der menschlichen gehwerkzeuge' (1836) ".contains an anatomical discussion of the joints used in walking and running, measurements made on living subjects, and a mathematical theory relating the length and duration of a step to anatomical parameters." (D.S.B. 14: 206). In the present dissertation, a quantitative study of the electrical resistance of the human body, Eduard Weber utilized instrumentation his brother had worked on at Göttingen. Logically there are a number of references to the work of Gauss. In 1846, Eduard Weber contributed 'Muskelbewegung' to Rudolph Wagner's 'Handbuch der physiologie'. Wheeler Gift Cat. 914. Bakken, p.321. Ronalds, p.536 (not in library). Poggendorff II.1274 (not listed). N.U.C. - 2 copies only. Not in Gartrell, Ekelöf Cat., Wheatland, or Roller & Goodman.
