This book is a fascinating look at a career in the Stock Exchange from the 1950s through Big Bang in 1986 to retirement in 1998. It is also, very much, a social history, this memoir allows the reader to follow the progress of the author's life and the various influences that are brought to bear. He acknowledges that he has led a privileged life, life, brought up in comfortable circumstances within a loving family, and while some may not view twelve years at boarding school as an advantage, it clearly gives an excellent start in life and myriad opportunities. The reader learns of his time at Winchester College, his army service with the 1st The King's Dragoon Guards and of his early love of riding, films and theatre. Selborne was home for Derek Edwards for a considerable part of his life and he gives a history of the people and the place. He describes himself as an intense lover of theampshire countryside and advances an admirable justification for hunting; he has ridden with the Hampshire Hunt since the age of 11 in 1945. Ref WW 2.
