Edited by Bertram Dobell. Paper cover, chipping on edges. 30 pages, many uncut, with notes and appendix. Oliver Goldsmith (1730-1774) was an Irish poet and novelist, most famous for " The Vicar of Wakefield". He wrote the poem, "The Traveler" in 1764. In the preface, the editor of this volume describes finding the ensuing pages in a lot of pamphlets he purchased, and discovered them to be an early draft of the poem "The Traveler" entitled "A Prospect of Society". Herein, he publishes this draft as well as the finished poem. In the appendix, Mr. Dobell explains that a literary reviewer named Mr. Quller-Couch discovered that "the former draft (A Prospect of Society) was a early draft of the latter poem, only the text of th "Prospect" begins at the end and ends at the beginning!".
