First edition of one of the three main books by the philosopher-mathematician, and physician to Charles IX, Jacques Charpentier (1524-74). Earlier he had published an attack on Pierre Ramus (1566), and later a mystical treatise that he attributed to Aristotle and pretended to have translated out of Arabic (Libri XIV qui Aristotelis esse dicuntur, de secretiore parte divinae sapientiae secund, 1572).
