Hardcover. Condición: Poor. No jacket. In the original caoutchouc binding, which was hoped to give coffee table books at the time an ability to lay flat for viewing, and a promise of lasting durability. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and it was finally abandoned. This book is in poor shape. The Rubberized binding is cracked and it has broken in two. One page is detached, but still present. All edges gilt. 4to. 10 inches x 8 inches (25.5cms x 21cms). With 30 fine wood engraved plates interleaved with text. Unpaginated, the illustrations and text being printed on heavy guage paper on one side only. Rebacked preserving original spine, corners rubbed, gilt on upper cover and spine is somewhat dulled, new endpapers, old paper repair to edge of half-title, some foxing and handling marks. Decorative Cloth. Condición: Near Very Good. Foster, Birket Ilustrador. Beautiful Edition with 30 Fine Wood Engravings of Birket Foster's delightful Landscapes by the Dalziel Brothers. Tom Taylor and his wife wrote the beautiful poems that accompany each picture. The Dalziel brothers devoted much labour to the wood blocks which gives the fine pictures the character and charm of etching. A lovely production. In original Red cloth cover with very ornate impressed Gilt Foliate Designs and Lettering on front, back & spine. Beveled Edges. All Page Edges Gilt. Unpaginated, the book is 1 3/8" Thick. 10 1/4" Tall, 1.7 Kilos. Slight edge wear except at fore corners of front board where the cloth is worn through to the board. Very small closed tear to cloth at top of spine. Hinges sound. Binding of the pages is fragile with some pages loose (probably due to the binding method). No inscriptions except old penciled price on ffep. A few patches and spots of light foxing on most pages (mainly marginal). Half title page quite browned. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. EARLY REPRINT (originally published in 1862). 4to. (10.4 x 8.2 inches). Illustrated with 30 full page plates. Some foxing to several pages but overall a very good example in a fine early leather binding of full dark green morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with blind ruled line. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Both boards have bevelled edges and are decorated and lettered with elaborate floral and ruled line designs and decorative lettering. Turn-ins with decorative and ruled gilt designs. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Some rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good and attractive copy of this delightful example of Victorian book production.
