12mo, 140x85mm. French language. Charming little set of four uniform volumes dated 1821 (Vols. 1-3) and 1822 (Vol. 4). On all aspects of girls' education for the home and family life, including several chapters on cuisine. With 23 (of 24) hand-coloured plates, missing frontispiece of Vol. 2. pp203(1), 216, 262(2) & 270 including half-titles and tables of contents. Half-titles spotted. Title-page of Vol. 2 spotted, title-pages of Vols. 1, 3 & 4 lightly so - as are a few leaves following title-pages and final few leaves of all volumes. Occasional mainly-light spotting elsewheres, here & there quite dense, and a scattering of isolated spots. Vol. 3 with a little loss at upper outer corner of title-page and at lower outer corner of pages 59/60, no loss of print. Pages 31/32 of Vol. 4 with loss at lower outer corner, and in fore-edge margin & slightly beyond - where loss of just the first letter of first word of one line on page 32. Contents otherwise lightly toned, with a few corner creases confined to margins, and a few creased and/or furled corner tips. Marbled edges of text-blocks a little toned. Contemporary full calf. Smooth spines with gilt decorations, and gilt titles and volume-numbers on separate dark green leather labels. Speckled boards with decorative gilt borders, and gilt rules along edges. Original marbled endpapers. Spines lightly rubbed, with variable loss at heads and tails; upper headband of Vol. 4 hanging loose. Hinges variably rubbed. Vol. 1 front hinge and Vol. 3 rear hinge split from head to tail; single splits of lengths up to 45mm at Vol. 2 rear hinge, Vol. 3 front hinge, and Vol. 4 front hinge. Loss at heads of Vols. 3 & 4 front hinges and at tail of Vol. 4 rear hinge, slight loss at all other heads and tails of hinges. Puncture-hole of diameter 2mm at Vol. 4 front hinge, no effect on contents. Boards variably rubbed at corners and along edges, variable wear at corner tips. Front board of Vol. 4 with puncture-hole of diameter up to 3mm close to upper inner corner, persisting with minimal effect as pinprick-size hole up to page 36 of contents. Bindings holding firmly and of pleasing shelf appearance; contents generally clean and tight, colour plates fresh. Missing one plate, otherwise a GOOD+ set. N° de ref. del artículo 26692
