Second edtion, though not designated as such on the title; in fact published first by subscription 1761, which is a rare issue, and this one being the edition usually met with. The original French of Goguet, first published in 1758, is a major work of scholarship, and its translation by, according to BLC, the eccentric theologian Richard Spearman in co-operation with a Mr Dunn of Edinburgh is to be considered a significant work of the Scottish enlightenment. 3 volumes volumes. Bound in contemporary calf, spines gilt with red labels, all but 2 missing, some joints cracked but sound, spine heads a little worn, but a very good clean set. N° de ref. del artículo 130420
