Volumes display commensurate wear and aging with a totally readable interior. Covers are dusty with notable shelfwear and edgewear with exposed boards at corners. Back boards display some scattered staining on both volumes, minimal on first volume. Spines have white title labels, that exhibit pronounced toning as well as some chipping going into text. Text on labels is difficult to read due to wear and fading. Spines are dry and cracked along shoulders as well as ends, with chips. Binding is secure though delicate in both volumes, with little play. Foxing is pronounced on feps and pastedowns. Front fep has stamp in black in both volumes. First volume has pressed flower between front feps, leaving persistent stain/shadow from facing page through to title page. One signature - pages 171 to 178 - is loosening from upper part, with binding threads visible and looser toward head. Interior is gently toned with scattered foxing in both volumes. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Textblock edges display commensurate toning and foxing, with dust along head. Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear. ** 259 + 223 pages. 5 x 7.75 inches. ** Considered as the Jane Austen of Sweden, the writer and feminist reformer Fredrika Bremer (1801-1865) left a notable legacy in the field of the realist novel, which she brought to prominence in Swedish literature.
