5 3/4 inches x 8 1/2 in., steel engraved frontispiece portrait of S. W. Baldwin (1807-91). Photo-engraved portrait of an older S. W. Baldwin, by Heliotype Printing Co., Boston; both with tissue guards. Flexible, black leather covers with signature gilt on front cover; dark brown coated endpapers, top-edge gilt. The spine, cover corners and edges show wear, cracking to inner hinges, cover margins, with a crease with cracking to the inner lower back cover margin. Age-related tanning. This copy contains, inserted, more than 18 clipped newspaper obituaries & articles regarding lawyer & a founder of the Western Reserve Historical Society, Judge Charles Candee Baldwin of Cleveland, Ohio (1834-95), from various newspaper sources, and 6 different handwritten letters (1895) to members of the Baldwin family, regarding Judge Baldwin, writers include: Sara N. Washburn (Lorain County Historical Society), Mary M. Baldwin (Middletown, Conn.), Edwina May Hall, Delia C. Rumsey (Vinland, Douglas Co.-Kans.); two are from Nashville, Tenn., one signed: Anna, and another: Charlie. More on C. C. Baldwin in the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History (1987), pp. 68-69.
