Size of bindings: 4 in. x 6 ¾ in., Volume 1: [4] pp., [1]-299 pp. + [9] pp. of "A Faithful Index of the Dull as well as Ingenious Passages in the Tatlers"; Volume 2: [i]-iv, [1]-334 pp. + [10] pp. of index; Volume 3: [i]-iv, [1]-316 pp. + [16] pp. of index; Volume 4: [i]-iv, [4] pp., [1]-313 pp. + [11] pp. of index. Bound in full old, mottled calf, with five raised bands on the spines; with remains of red & brown leather title labels (2-4 have been re-lettered in gold ink); gilt-lettered on volume one: TAT=LER VOL I; compartments gilt tooled with floral designs, and a horse head in the last compartment, single-line, gilt-ruled borders around covers, gilt tooling to cover edges, leather turn-ins; headbands are present, but chipped; dark green silk bookmarkers bound in, early, red & blue marbled endpapers. A name has been clipped off the top-edge of each titlepage; inked initials in volume one, on the second, blank flyleaf: J D.'A; former owner's more recent, printed book labels on marbled paste-downs of each volume. Spines show chipping to ends, and general wear to leather and gold-stamping; wear to cover corners & edges, rubbing to covers. General age wear. Good.
