Acerca de

Sinopsis:

This book is about three of Shakespeare's comedies, The Merchant of Venice, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfth Night. The author discusses them as expressions of a single theory of comedy -- that is, that every element of these plays contributes to an anti-romantic interpretation -- and he interprets them only in light of this anti-romantic theory.

From Library Journal:

This is a revisionist view of three of Shakespeare's comedies: The Merchant of Venice , Much Ado about Nothing , and Twelfth Night. Levin challenges the happy end by focusing on the outsiders in these plays, such as Shylock and Antonio, Beatrice and Don Pedro, and Malvolio and Feste. From such a view the comedies take on a somber tone, an aura of general estrangement. Although these characters ultimately (except for Beatrice) are excluded from a happy end or happy marriage they must, it would seem, in any performance of the plays (which Levin disregards) be set aside and forgotten in the general merriment at the end.
