Sobre este título:

Sinopsis: ARISE Little by Little: Keeping Me Safe and Healthy presents the idea that self discovery and appreciation is a life-long process that begins at a young age. Book 2 in the Little by Little series encourages children to take care of themselves and appreciate their unique abilities. All About Me presents the topics of emotion, hygiene, health, and personal safety in interactive and creative ways.

About the Author: Edmund F. Benson, who with his wife, Susan, is the founder of Miami-based ARISE Foundation, was born in Boston and grew up there. Impatient to do his part during World War II, he joined the Massachusetts State Guard at 14. He signed up for the U.S. Merchant Marine at 16 and the Army Corps of Engineers at 19. At the age of 21 he established a sales organization that grew into a chain of furniture rental showrooms with locations from the east coast to Texas. In 1972, he moved his headquarters to South Florida. After retiring in 1982, Edmund spent 100 percent of his time and energy making South Florida a healthier, safer place for everyoneespecially school age youth.

Susan Benson, M.S. Ed., co-founder of ARISE Foundation, is an educator with 30 years of experience teaching hearing-impaired and learning-challenged children. She was a regional finalist for Teacher of the Year in 1987, and pioneered using mentors (college and high school students) as role models and teachers. For years Susan placed 300 student volunteers in Dade County Public School classes to teach safety smarts to elementary school children.

Galvanized into action in the early 1980s by the Miami Monster, a term coined by Edmund that referred to Dade Countys dangerous new garbage incinerator, Benson battled for more than 15 years writing, investigating, organizing, conducting surveys, leading marchesuntil the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation filed suit against Dade County. Dade County terminated its contract with the incinerators builder and operator and completely rebuilt this facility.

In 1986, the Bensons established ARISE Foundation Secrets of Success (SOS) to educate residents and public officials about the many threats to the environment, and to human health and safety, caused by chemical carelessness and a throwaway society. Today, ARISE has grown into a widely-respected, non-profit educational foundation which teaches thousands of at-risk youngsters, pre-K through high school, using their own reality-based award winning statistically proven life-readiness skills youths need to succeed. Through SOS, youth learn to effectively communicate, reason, analyze and make the right choices by developing respect for self and society.

The Bensons list of awards, commendations, and honors is a lengthy one. They served on and chaired the Miami-Dade Environmental Task Force created at their urging. Edmund and Susan were part of similar task forces established at his requestDade County Public Schools and Jackson Memorial Hospitaldesigned to encourage waste reduction, recycling, and the use of recycled products. Their extraordinary work has been acknowledged by Miami-Dade county with the naming of Edmund F. Benson Boulevard, the National Association of Governments with President George Bushs Thousand Points of Light and by county officials with Edmund F. Benson Day in November 1990, the year he won the Miami Heralds Spirit of Excellence Award. Benson has also received Renew Americas Searching for Success Award, the National Giraffe Award for Americans who stick their necks out, the Allstate Safety Leadership Award, Stephen P. Clark Award, Dade Partners Exemplary Award, Choice Champion Award, Excellence in Educat! ion, and the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award.
