London: Printed and Published by James Cundee and J. Nuttall, Liverpool 1806, Second Edition [First Edition thought to be 1805]. Half leather binding from the library of R. C. Fiske with 3 spine labels, 5 raised bands, gilt lined, marbled boards and end papers, illustrated with 15 full page and fold out engravings. The engraved plates as follows: 1) Portrait of Lord Nelson (frontispiece) foxed; 2) Earl St Vincent slightly faded; 3) Commodore Nelson receiving the swords of vanquished Spaniards cropped tightly to the top of the engraving with some loss; 4) Plan of the Battle of Aboukir browned to the folds, tanned; 5) Captain Berry good condition; 6) Saving the crew of L Orient cropped tightly to the top of the engraving with some loss; 7) Lord Nelson before Copenhagen incomplete, rather crudely repaired and rebacked with loss to the outer edge; 8) Death of Lord Nelson on board the Victory foxed but complete; 9) Plan of the Battle off Trafalgar incomplete, more than half of the plate missing (bound in at page 263 instead of 267); 10) Battle off Trafalgar foxed with a hole to the plate, otherwise complete; 11) The Funeral Car (bound at iii, not 382 as called for), cropped a little tightly to the left of the engraving with some loss to the image; 12) Exterior of the Coffin (bound in as a frontispiece to a newly paginated and titled section, not 380 as called for in the Directions to the Binder), nice and clean; 13) Remains of Lord Nelson lying in State (bound in at page 10 to a newly paginated and titled section, not 383 as called for in the Directions to the Binder), cropped with loss to the base otherwise good; 14) Funeral Procession from Greenwich to Whitehall - (bound in at page 18 to a newly paginated and titled section, not 391 as called for in the Directions to the Binder), incomplete, missing a third of the folded engraved plate; 15) additional folding plate at page 8 of the exterior of the coffin, will loss to the base, lacking the title? Very scarce publication in any edition, 4 copies (first and second editions) held at the British and international libraries. Approximately 7 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition 5 raised gilt lined bands, red, green and black title labels, the 3rd label being R. C. Fiske Library label. Joints very good condition. Corners very good condition. Boards good condition marbled boards, gilt lines to the leather, minor marks and scratches Page edges good condition some tanning. See above and photos. Internally Hinges very good condition. Paste downs good condition front paste down with the book plate for R. C. Fiske, both marbled. End papers good condition marbled, one new end paper to front and rear, two original foxed and tanned end papers with previous owner s signatures followed by frontispiece (foxed and tanned and partially detached at the base) at the front of the book, one original end paper to the rear, 15 full page and folding engraved plates 3 of which are damaged and incomplete, see details and photos above. Title good condition foxed and tanned. Pages good condition some foxing and tanning throughout but mostly to limited to front and rear end pages. Binding very good condition attractive copy.
