1672 Letters of Saint Jerome Church History Epistolae Asceticism Vulgate Bible When the stomach is full, it is easy to talk of fasting. Jerome, Epistle 58 Saint Jerome was a 4th-century, early church father. While he was most known for his translation of the Bible, he also wrote a collection of letters which are now known his Epistles. These letters were written on a variety of topics, but most of them were written as warnings against sin and detestable devices such as sexual immorality within the clergy, clothing advised for virgins, gluttony and fasting, and laboring over Biblical texts. These letters were written to and from important men and women of the church such as Augustine, Theophilus, Heliodorus, and the Popes. This 1672 French edition was translated by Frederic Leonard.
