Sinopsis: Killing Orders, V.I. Warshawski?s third adventure, starts when her great-aunt Rosa summons the detective to her cold suburban home. Rosa made V.I.?s childhood miserable and the detective resents the command to help her aunt prove she didn't embezzle five million dollars from a local Dominican priory. All hell breaks loose when a mysterious opponent tries to take Vic off the case by throwing acid in her eyes and burning down her apartment. And when a friend who?s involved in the case is brutally murdered, it begins to look as if Vic hasn?t got a prayer. But Warshawski continues to follow every lead, even when they point to some pretty unorthodox conclusions: Perhaps the Dominicans are covering up a financial scandal. Maybe the whole conspiracy is under the patronage of an international conglomerate, or of Don Pasquale, king of the Chicago mob. Worst of all, someone who?s close to Vic could be involved ? her darkly handsome English lover, Roger Ferrant, or even Aunt Rosa herself.
Reseña del editor: V.I. Warshawski's latest case has alreasy opened up old wounds. But when a silky voice on the phone threatened to throw acid in her eyes, V.I. knew this one could finish her off with some brand-new ones. The sour-faced old aunt she had agreed to help was accused of stealing millions in stock certificates from a pious order of Dominican brothers. V.I. knew the woman was a witch, not a thief, and she soon smelled something rotten in the sanctum sanctorum of Chicago's most powerful movers and shakers -- the Church and the Mob. Now someone wants to see V.I. burn in hell. But this tough cookie of a private eye had her back up, a brand-new Smith & Wesson, and a daring plan to make the bad guys go to the devil first.

Descripción de la librería: Johnnycake Books trades in rare and collectible books of most kinds, principally in fields of literature, illustrated, childrens, architecture/design, gardening and photography. We try to offer books that are a little unusual, offbeat and unexpected: most have a strong visual or design appeal. Our descriptions present our inventory as creatively and colorfully as possible, with occassional editorial commentary. We regard condition of our books as critical to our service: most are very good or better, in collectible condition. We are generally conservative in describing a book, even if that means it doesn't sound as good as it actually might be. We welcome your comments directly at email@example.com or visit our website www.johnnycakebooks.com. Best wishes in your book collecting. Dan Dwyer
