Acerca de

Sinopsis:

Chronicles, the life, family background, political career, and assassination of the thirty-fifth president of the United States.

From School Library Journal:

ea. vol: illus. by Richard Hook. photogs. bibliog. chron. glossary. index. (Great Lives Series). Bookwright Pr, dist. by Watts. Mar. 1986. PLB $9.40. Grade 4-7 Each of these well-written volumes presents the life story of its subject succinctly and thoroughly. Unlike many biographies written for children, these do not over-emphasize the subject's childhood, nor do they include fictionalized conversations. Instead, they focus on the achievements of each person and limit quotations to those from journals, speeches, etc. Helen Keller presents Keller's support of socialism, something frequently omitted in books for children. Langley manages to avoid the adulatory tone that plagues many biographies of John F. Kennedy . It is unfortunate, however, that the inaccurate description of leprosy as a "very infectious disease" appears in Mother Teresa . In each volume the information is arranged logically, and transitions from subheaded topic to topic are smooth; despite their frequency (every page or two) there is no feeling of choppiness. With attractive photographs and drawings on every page, the books will attract browsers as well as report writers. The reading level of the texts is higher than the format would suggest (brief text, large print), yet the brevity of each volume will encourage perseverance. Few other biographies of these people are as well-written and informative. Elaine Fort Weischedel, Turner Free Library, Randolph, Mass.
