BOUND VOLUME of The Illustrated News of the World from January through June 1890, profusely illustrated with full page and in-text black and white wood engravings, a few full page color illustrations, marbled edges, 616pp, 16 x 12 inches, leather spine and corners with cloth-covered boards (hardbound). Boards detached, covers worn and stained, spine largely missing; the volume has been dampstained; in general the interior is in good tight condition with dampstain to central left margin through January 18 affecting images, additional marginal stains to March 29 and April (most not affecting images); light staining April 12 through June 28 affecting images, rippling to pages, browning to right edge of last section of volume. "The Duke of Portland's Derby Winners" has a few specks of abrasion, the "Four Derby Favorites, 1890" a few adhered spots of tissue paper, the dampstaining is not severe to either. Described as "The American Edition of the Illustrated London News: Printed From the Original Blocks." An exceptional repository of articles and images pertaining to the Far East and Africa, with numerous full page illustrations relating to Formosa, Malaysia, and Stanley's expedition: Congo to Zanzibar.
