One of 4400 copies printed by HMSO in Aug 1975. 88pp including double-page map, 2 full-page plans, and local and regional adverts, with 1pp printed Amendment slip dated Nov 1975 laid in. Fine, with small faint date stamp to the front. Part of a series of country guides issued by the Board of Trade at various points since the 1940s, this was prepared to give market seeking British exporters essential practical information prior to and during a visit. This would have supported Britain's desire to consolidate commercial ties with these recently independent oil rich states. Each part opens with the Commercial Secretaries' contact details at the Embassies in Manama and Doha. Sections cover general information (geography, people, towns, climate, language, health, social customs, religion, hours of business etc); travel (to and within); hotels, restaurants and tipping; postal, telephone, telegraph and telex; economic factors; import and exchange control regulations; methods of doing business; reading; and Government and commercial organisations. The map shows Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Oman on a scale of approx 1 inch to 60 miles, indicating main settlements and airports. The "Manama Simplified Street Plan" approx 1 inch to 1750 feet, and the Doha Town plan, 1:20,000 name major streets, buildings, districts etc. Among the advertisers (airlines, shipping, banks etc) are local and regional business people including YK Almoayyed & Sons (Bahrain), Almana (Qatar), and Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo.
